Bamboo Dragonfly

The bamboo dragonfly is a traditional Japanese toy.

It is made of bamboo of course, and has a propeller and a stem.

When we play with it, we rub our hands together and fly it.

It is a little difficult for beginners to fly it.

Kendama

I introduce a Japanese toy, Kendama.

This is a Japanese traditional toy.

It is made of wood and thread.

When we play this, we grasp the stick and throw the ball into the top of stick.

We also play to throw the ball on the side of the stick.

I think it is a bit more difficult to throw the ball into the top.

Kenadama is the traditional toy, so at th epresent days, children don’t play it so often.

However we have contests.

In the contest, we compete a lot of skills.

Origami

I’ll show you about Origami.

Origami is a kind of traditional play in Japan.

We make a lot of things like animals and plants by a square piece of paper.

I think what is most popular is crane.

If someone suffered hurt or got sickness,  we sometimes  make one thousand paper cranes to wish to get better.

Crane is a symbol for health and pease.

chopsticks

Chopsticks are a pair of small even-length tapered sticks, used when we eat something, and are commonly made of wood, bamboo, metal, bone, ivory.

The pair of sticks is used in one hand – between the thumb and fingers – and used to pick up pieces of food.

I think chopsticks are important for Japanese culture.

When we are small, we are taught how to use chopsticks correctly.

Recently there has been a reformation how to use chopsticks.
